No doubt about it, school is a place to learn. Today's students are asked to perform at all times from the moment they step in the door at 7:45 am. No time to get settled, no time to be silly. I'm looking to bridge the gap between learning and having fun. A soft start for students mimics the way you likely prefer to start your day – with a chance to settle in before beginning work. Even with a soft start, students still complete morning routines (emptying backpacks, etc.) But when they finish, they have a handful of activities to choose from, rather than a worksheet. Students are able to chat with friends during all of the activities. Students learn best through play. By providing students with the opportunity for collaborative play and learning with math and literacy manipulative bins, soft start mornings provides students the opportunity to transition to a school environment and build community with their peers. This will strengthen the sense of community in our classroom and empower our students with making their own choices. With so much of their day structured, we can let students have a voice and a choice easily with soft start morning work. Every morning, students will be able to choose what manipulatives speak best to them that day, helping them to gain familiarity with different math and literacy resources, as well as building on and reinforcing social skills with their peers. The use of manipulatives provides a way for children to learn concepts through developmentally appropriate hands-on experience. This is a school, but our students are still children. Your donation will help bring math and literacy manipulative resources that engage students in play and learning. Let's make school a little more fun! Thank you!!
