The students at our school are highly engaged because they are learning through games and play. However, this means they spend a lot of time in spaces other than their tables. My students choose to do most of their work on the floor. Right now they just bring a clip board to where they'd like to work. They make excellent choices as to where to sit. During this time they are highly engaged. By having lap desks and cushions, students can choose the space that is best for them to complete their work. The lap desks will help with students who prefer to sit while working somewhere other than a table. It will give them a space to store the items needed for the task they are working on. The cushions will give them a softer place to sit than the hard floor. Both of these will also help students define the space they are working in.
