One of my number one priorities as a teacher is to instill a true love for books and reading in my classroom. It doesn't matter your reading level, interest or prior experiences; each of my students is a reader and each of them can find the magic of books when provided the right conditions and a teacher who can share her love of literature! A colleague recently told me that my classroom felt more like a home than a classroom, and it was one of the best compliments that I have received as a teacher. That's exactly how I want my students to feel when they enter our doors. The flexible seating options that I'm looking for funding for, as well as the shaggy comfy rug and relaxing lighting, will only increase the homey feeling that I am trying to develop in my classroom. This will provide the perfect environment for falling in love with reading!
