A kidney-shaped table would be very beneficial for the students in my classroom. I teach 3rd grade at an elementary school, and many of the students in my classroom are struggling readers. Reading is an area in which students cannot afford to be struggling because problems in reading often carry over into other subject areas. Reading is also an essential part of everyday life. Because of the importance of reading, much of the day in my classroom is spent on reading intervention, in which small group instruction is a necessity. However, without the proper materials, small group instruction can be difficult. It is hard to meet with a group of 5 students gathered around a group of desks and be accessible to each child. It is also hard for students to stay on task in this sort of situation, which makes improving students' reading skills more difficult. A kidney-shaped table would help with this dilemma. The benefit of this type of table is that the teacher is within an arm's reach of each student. Children are more focused when they are in close proximity to the teacher, and when children are focused, they are able to make greater strides in gaining the reading skills in which they are lacking. Your help will ensure that my students are given every available advantage in gaining the reading skills needed to become successful readers.
