The use of technology is a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math and science. Using the station teaching model, students move through the classroom working mostly independently. It’s not easy to engage students in productive and meaningful discussions in math class while still using scaffolds and differentiation. While trying to create various entry points for students, we must also promote challenging tasks that provide students with the opportunity to engage in dialogue with their classmates. This is where station teaching can help. By having access to games and technology, students will be able to based on their own needs and focus on increasing their learning! By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement and problem-solving abilities. In her book, About Teaching Mathematics, Marilyn Burns describes students with strong number sense in the following way: "[They] can think and reason flexibly with numbers, use numbers to solve problems, spot unreasonable answers, understand how numbers can be taken apart and put back together in different ways, see connections among operations, figure mentally, and make reasonable answers." Students will be able to practice strategies and problem solving using the board games and online games. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
