Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are sitting in chairs at desks. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. When I work, I want to be comfortable and sometimes it is not at a desk. It is hard to define the "perfect working spot" because it is different for everyone! Some of my students like using a beanbag, while others prefer to stay at their desks. The new furniture will provide the students with a different option besides a hard chair. Many students also have attention problems, being able to move and change seating can eliminate the behavior issues that may arise.
