The supplies I am requesting will be to create a reading corner in our classroom library. I am looking to add a carpet, bean bag chairs and foam cushions. The carpet will create a cozy space on the floor for the children to sit, or lie down and read. The carpet will also create a designated space for the library materials to stay. The bean bag chairs will create flexible seating that is more comfortable for reading. They can be moved around the room if they are looking to read completely independently. Bean bag chairs can help fulfill some sensory needs that students may have. Foam cushion are useful in focusing students whose attention is easily lost. They can also be moved around the classroom. Both foam cushions and bean bag chairs serve multiple purposes. In a special education classroom it is common to have a cool down space. When my students get frustrated they often seek out a comfortable space to practice controlling their emotions; bean bag chairs and foam cushions help them regulate their emotions. Since I began building our classroom library my students have shown an excitement for reading that has thrilled me. They take more risks in their reading and strive to read books beyond their current reading level. I would like to take advantage of this excitement and foster it into a lifelong passion.
