The materials will allow me to create centers that will be hands on activities for letter and number recognition and identification. These academic skills are the foundations of what students learn in kindergarten. If students are able to learn while playing, the knowledge will stick with them for a life time. Childhood is a small window of time to learn and develop at the pace which is right for each individual child. Centers time is a great time for the student to work on their skills at their own pace. I plan to create engaging centers by placing letters in rice, sand, and water beads and having the students use the scoop scissors, tweezers, and hands to pick them out and match them with their letter mats. This will develop fine motor skills and give students the opportunity for sensory learning. I will also create centers for the students to use the letter stamps to spell sight words and CVC words which will give students the opportunity to work and learn with their hands without the use of paper!
