Imagine being told you MUST sit behind a square hard desk, squashed next to several other people, while using an uncomfortable plastic chair and you MUST stay there for up to 8 hours. Oh wait - you MUST also listen to someone teach you how to perform brain surgery. That sounds HORRIBLE! This is how the typical school day seems to most students. Within a standard classroom, students are asked to sit in a situation that is not an ideal environment for them to learn them within. It is difficult for anyone to focus when they are uncomfortable. It is even more difficult for a young child to focus on learning new material, when they are uncomfortable. By providing these different seating options, students will have the chance to find a seating arrangement that best fits their personality. Some students may need to stand up while learning. Others may need to wobble in their seats to focus. While others may need to spread out on the floor to get comfortable. By providing multiple flexible seating options within my classroom, I can provide students the opportunity to find the option that works best for them. This project will allow ALL of my students to have a choice when it comes to a flexible seating option rather than only a few on a rotating basis. The more options and different configurations I can provide the students to choose from, leads to the more likely chance we will find the optimal setup for each individual student.
