I am a Speech and Language teacher who works for KECCS housed within LHS. Our students are primarily from low income households. Despite hardships, my students come ready to learn. An iPad will greatly help promote student interaction. An iPad would allow for all students to share a screen within the classroom. This technology will give my students the opportunity to watch short clips, play educational games, and improve overall reading comprehension skills. It is my hope that the iPad will increase student motivation to improve students’ knowledge and understanding of speech and language goals. Technology has become an important and essential tool for teaching. “Active engagement of students is not a luxury, but a necessity if students are to truly acquire and retain content, not only for tests, but for life,” (Tate, 2003). Interactive technology encourages group collaboration, higher order thinking, and increases social skills. My goal of obtaining an IPad is to increase student performance during speech and language sessions. An IPad would allow my students the opportunity to have fun while learning.
