This coming school year, members of a creative and spirited public charter school in an urban district will open its doors to students and their families on nights and weekends to hold meetings of its first annual Social-Emotional Family Book Club! Whole families, including little learners not yet in school, are invited to come out and engage in language-enriching activities and book readings on social and mental health topics. The purpose of this whole-family book club is to promote family conversations of social-emotional topics such as making friends, dealing with anxiety, and developing social skills and to foster a love for reading and books that permeates the whole family. Funds will go to building a social-emotional book library to be accessed by students, parents, and teachers through the book club.
