The core of a successful STEAM curriculum always incorporates the engineering process to allow students to creatively design solutions to real life problems. As a brand new STEAM program, we are in need of all of the essentials to make this happen. Using materials such as craft sticks and clay, students in this STEAM class will be "hands-on" learning and creating 100% of the time. Working in STEAM teams, children will think like scientists to create simple machines, houses, bridges, animals and more with these crafty supplies! The Lego sets correlate with the K-2 NC Science standards and will supplement the curriculum the students receive in the classroom. They will go from learning and talking about simple machines to designing and building them! In addition, the clay will serve not only as a tool for making models but also as connectors for the many projects the students will design this year. All of these items are basic supplies needed to allow students to use their imagination to engineer personal projects based on the lessons. STEAM will allow our kids to go beyond memorizing and use critical thinking to dive into the real processes that go into solving real life problems.
