Adding a greenhouse to my classroom will help my students in many ways. One very important thing gardening will help me teach my students is patience. Many things in school are taught at a fast pace and it stresses my students out. The greenhouse will provide the opportunity for them slow down, observe, and relax while learning. Second graders love to touch and smell everything. The opportunity to touch, smell, and observe will enhance all of their senses. Gardening will also help to develop fine motor skills, scientific concepts, and math skills, I can think of two more ways this greenhouse project will enhance student learning. First, my students will learn to work together through the planning and organizing for the greenhouse set up and maintenance. I believe this will cultivate a positive feeling of community. The most important thing having a greenhouse will do is encourage healthy eating. If my students grow fruits and vegetables, they will want to eat those fruits and vegetables.
