STEPS TO TOLERANCE is a unique, interactive, educational museum experience designed for 5th and 6th grade students.
It provides an age-appropriate introduction to Holocaust history and discussion of current issues, including school bullying.
This 2.5 hour program takes place entirely in the museum’s Youth Action Lab. Students act as “Explorers” as they connect historical events to contemporary issues of respect and responsibility at school and in the community.
While at the Museum, students will get to do the following:
· Meet a Holocaust survivor and hear personal testimony
· Examine Holocaust artifacts and photographs
· View a short, age-appropriate documentary about the
Holocaust
· Investigate the roles of perpetrator, target, bystander
and ally in conflict situations
· Vote their opinions in an interactive bullying
prevention workshop
· Explore the Para Todos Los Niños exhibit and the
impact of the Mendez v. Westminster case, which
ended school segregation in California.
· Utilize an Explorer’s Notebook that provides follow-up
classroom activities
