The Green Team at school conducted an inquiry on the amount of plastic water bottles used by our school. The students measured the amount of water used in water fountains, versus the amount of plastic water bottles used at the school. The students were amazed at the amount of plastic water bottles used in our school only once. Students made signs to help remind others to turn off the water in the bathrooms and to not play with the water fountains. The Green Team members wanted to have a way for students and adults to reuse water bottles (not plastic bottles) everyday. The Green Team members thought it was important to show the school and community a good way to help the Earth. The members made a presentation and presented facts to our principal about getting refillable water stations in our school. The students based their evidence on the amount of plastic used in our school. I am in awe of the students at my school because they are becoming global thinkers and protectors of the Earth. I would like to present each student at the beginning of the year their own refillable water bottle. I feel that this will help the students, Green Team Members and new students realize the difference that they are making in their choices and how they are impacting their school and community. I feel that the students will see their success in action and fill pride in their Green Team choices.
