These materials will make an impact on the development of my students. Each student has their own set of challenges and strengths. My end goal is that each student will be as independent in life as possible. By utilizing these tools in my classroom I can work on skills in many areas, such as cognition, fine motor, language, and social emotional behaviors. The wooden train set, puzzles, and spinning ring stacker are just a few of the items that I will use to promote executive function skills and cognitive learning in my classroom. The suction cup Squigz, playdoh tools, and lite-brite promote fine motor development. Hand strengthening is a vital part of fine motor development. Before a child can hold a writing utensil or cut with scissors they must have the strength and ability to use their fingers independently. It goes beyond the classroom, it impacts a student's ability to independently perform self-care tasks such as dressing and undressing and many other areas in their daily lives. Language skills are vital for the early learner. Some of my students are working to requesting items using pictures cards, others are just beginning to use single word utterances, while others are formulating sentences. Giving students the opportunity to request desired items, make a choice, or describe their play are just a few ways these items will impact the learning in my classroom. As mentioned before sensory integration plays a big role in my classroom. I try to utilized items that have different textures, sounds, and that are visually appealing. The Wooden Jingle Tube stimulates the auditory learners while the visual timer captures the attention of the visual learner. These are all tools that learner can explore themselves discovering their own rate.
