Kindergarten kiddos are entering school with hours of screen time "under their belts". Many of them have no experience with the traditional building blocks, Legos or Tinker Toys. As a 34 year veteran kindergarten teacher, I find that this translates into kiddos who can't solve problems, don't know how to work with others and lack spatial awareness skills. These skills are the building blocks of learning and growing. It is my hope to provide a classroom environment that provides the necessary screen time that our digital climate demands, but also provides some basic hands-on manipulative activities that can encourage what I feel is lacking in my current curriculum.
