Creating a diverse classroom library is a must for every teacher to build their young readers. Students want so badly to connect with a book character. Making those connections is what helps young readers to develop a love for literature. Every student deserves to pick up a book and say "HEY, that character looks like me! Students that read from a rich, diverse selection of books will develop a better understanding of culture and tolerance. A student's love for reading, self worth, and overall educational experience will improve with diverse books. Not only will my students from minority backgrounds benefit from this project, but all students will be exposed to literature that helps to embrace diversity and acceptance.
