At my school we teach mindfulness- the ability to be present in the moment. This seems like an easy concept; however, even as an adult I have difficulty setting aside my daily issues and being "present". This being said, I do not have as much trauma as many of my students(poverty, hunger, violence, etc.). I would like to provide a safe environment with bean bag chairs where students can read in my classroom library with the requested books that encourage a love for reading.
My students are naturally drawn to hands on STEM learning and I would love to provide them with more opportunities in the engineering field. I will use the STEM "Buildings & Bridges" to not only give them experience in the field of engineering, but also explore the effects of natural disasters on bridges. Exploring these real world applications allows students to connect to the material presented.
