I am entering my first year of teaching, which means I will be building my classroom from the ground up. As Bill Ayers describes, "the learning environment is a complex, living reflection of a teacher's values". I want the environment I create to be inviting and warm, a space where all students feel welcome, safe, and empowered to learn. Providing my students with engaging, multi-modal learning experiences requires various materials. Some of these materials are quite basic, like paper and pencils. Other materials, like highlighters and personalized binders, will allow for enhanced engagement. When students walk through my door on the first day of school, they will see a binder with their name on it, the first sign that they belong in my classroom. With your help, I'll be able to furnish my new classroom with the supplies my students need for engaged and meaningful learning.
