As my students begin to acquire vocabulary and grammar, they need opportunities to utilize those emerging skills and help them grow. Having a classroom library in the target language would give them access to practice materials as well as cultural information about the places they encounter. A classroom library! My students will practice their new language and gain self-confidence. Using the lowest level books would give them a place to begin. Since they may be familiar with the same books in English, it is a great way to build in predictability and context cues. We need literacy and language to work hand in hand.
