Throughout the year, I have read books to my students, engaged them in small book clubs and encouraged independent reading time. Unfortunately due to funding, I do not own a class set of chapter books that my students and I could read together. If we could have a class set, this will help me support my students in improving their fluency and reading comprehension. By teaching specific reading skills as we read a chapter book rather than disconnected short stories, students will have the opportunity to continuously apply these skills to a cohesive text that they enjoy. Moreover, reading the same book together will add to our sense of community. My students have made such improvement in their reading throughout the year and I would like to ensure that their progress is not impacted by the loss of learning that happens during summer break. Your donation will ensure that every student in my class has access to at least one chapter book that they could read over the summer.
