My students need a chance to dive into a 21st century learning world with six Chromebooks.
My students want to learn by being able to associate their learning with the challenge of using technology.
The reality is that in the 21st century, technology is important.
21st century learning is real and is a necessity that my student in Baltimore City are not provided access to.
The technology course my students are exposed to requires them to be in a room where they are playing games on the computer. Then, by the end of the year they are required to take a test that requires them to know how to use real computer skills. The downfall is, those students that do not know how to type and use grammar on a computer are not able to be successful.
My students need year-round learning on a computer for basic keyboarding skills. They can also use computers to aid them in literacy skills and to support what we are working on in the classroom.
My Project
The technical skills will allow my students to be on the same playing field as other students who are provided with keyboarding skills throughout the school year. Then, when they go to take their online test they will be able to express themselves properly and will not get points taken off for not knowing how to capitalize their sentences and using grammatical remarks.
My students will be more engaged because we have to remember that they are kids and a literacy game on the computer is just more appealing than a worksheet.
This will not only provide my students with access to educational websites but also help me to differentiate for my students who are at low reading.
