Preparing and creating video projects-documentaries, interviews, and news briefs-in small groups using the iPads with the iMovie app requires students to use the same skills needed to write strong argumentative essays or prepare an informative report-research, organization, presentation-but adds the necessities of 21st Century skills: communication, collaboration and technology. Students today use videos and pictures to share information: Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube. School projects must be relevant to the 12-year-old of today. These materials will allow my students to create, share, and evaluate not only their own documentaries, news brief, and interview projects but those of peers and professionals as well.
