Manipulatives are essential in understanding for my students. Since the students are so young, they are all English language learners. Since resources are scarce at my current school, students often have to share in large groups or they have no manipulatives to use at all unless I can make some out of paper products or available resources. The use of hands on materials during classroom instruction, small group and stations will boost their retention and comprehension of topics discussed. The magnetic ten frames will help students with their number sense, addition, subtraction and get them ready for multiplication. Each student being able to have their own reusable set will cut down on distractions and ensure every student has a set readily available to use during assignments and testing. Magnetic letters are essential in every English language learning classroom. Students are able to use them during workstations or small group. We also use them for collaborative learning as the students can easily help one another to identify spelling or phonemic mistakes. Literacy is a major issue in my school which is why the circle chart would be great for my students as part as their daily routine. Students are on different levels as far as their reading and having an autonomous routine of reviewing letters, sounds, rhymes, etc would be very helpful to boost those who are struggling.
