As NYC begins to follow the new NGSS standards, it is essential that our school is targeting and successfully implementing all of the necessary performance skills and science concepts. In order to ensure the success of our students, we have decided to complete the Amplify Science curriculum. This curriculum includes phenomena-based units, hands on activities, literacy building assignments, and interactive digital simulations and assessments. In order for my students to successfully address the NGSS standards and skills, we need access to technology! The Amplify curriculum engages students in digital simulations, projects and assessments. As of now, our simulations will be showed on the smart board which would allow for few students to be involved in the simulation. Assessments would be completed on paper instead of the computer which would automatically be able to track each students progress and class trends throughout the year. Groups of 2-4 students would share computers when they are available for my classes to use during digital learning opportunities. Although these computers would not solve all of our technology obstacles, they are a start! With your help, my students will have more time to learn independently and at their own rate of learning.
