My students are resilient! Our public elementary school is incredibly diverse, located in Kalamazoo, MI. TOGETHER we create a student-centerd classroom community conducive to high levels of success. I am inspired by their optimism and the endless joy and LOVE that comes naturally to them. It is an honor to share our days together. Despite the many challenges students face at home or in the community, they show up everyday, eager to learn and connect with their peers. Lack of community resources and generational trauma has and continues to impact my students in the classroom, as well as their daily lives outside of school. Considering everything my students have gone through, I feel an increased sense of urgency to learn social-emotional and trauma-informed learning strategies that will help me create a safe learning environment.
