The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will help bring about a warm and comforting classroom environment. The large carpet will be placed in the front of the classroom and will be used as a community space during morning meetings and Social Studies mini-lessons.
The two bookcases will be filled with high-quality books that my students can enjoy. One bookcase will be dedicated to books for our communal classroom library. The classroom library will be organized by genre and themes. I will encourage students to choose books that interest them, and that will allow them to explore the world around them. The second bookcase will be used for Guided Reading book sets. I will have sets of books based on my student’s reading levels. Throughout the year, students read as many as twelve books with their groups. Students are grouped based on their reading level, and they led out discussions about the books that they are studying. The clear plastic covers will be used Guided Reading for students to record their answers to text-dependent questions. They will allow for my students to collaborate with one another and have richer peer-to-peer discussions.
