Our students were given the challenge of creating their own common area to gather in during appropriate times for socialization. They used their creativity to paint the walls black with neon splatter paint. Then they used their problem solving skills to re-purpose furniture from throughout the school district to create seating and a communication board. In the age of technology, a comfortable common area where students can socialize face-to-face is important for our school culture. Our current space is filled with a sofa supported by a wooden block and black plastic chairs. Let's create a better environment for this important opportunity for face-to-face student interaction. Human connections are critical to healthy social-emotional development which affects all academic performance.
