Visuals are an important part of a preschool classroom, especially a special education, preschool classroom. My students benefit from visuals in a variety of ways. For example, pictures can show the schedule to help students understand what is up next in the day. They can also help a student remember expectations or steps in a process. Visuals make things more concrete for the students and help them understand the world a little better. In addition, visuals can also be used by the students and teachers as a form of communication.
The wireless photo printer and compatible photo paper will provide my students with real life visuals. With the printer, photos can be printed almost instantly, allowing students access to visuals as needed without the limitations of sending photos off to be printed or print/copy restrictions set by the school. My students will have access to photos of themselves instead of printed clip-art or photos of others which will create a more meaningful connection to the learning. The printer will also be used to document our special activities as a class. These printed photos can then be referred back to during large and small group times to help reinforce concepts such as time, retelling, and sequencing.
