Working with students with disabilities often times means helping them learn to self-regulate their emotions and use learned strategies to calm themselves when they become overwhelmed. By providing these students with a safe and inviting space to do so, you allow them to regulate their own emotions and practice skills that can be utilized throughout their every day life. When my students become upset, many of them will often look for something to hit to release that feeling of frustration, so providing the crash pad as a safe place to get that emotion out, allows that sensory output without risk of hurting themselves. The sensory bubble tube and liquid floor tiles will provide my students with the opportunity to calm themselves and regain focus when they become upset due to the calming visual stimuli that these items provide. By giving students a safe place to regain their emotions and self-control, they are better able to return to classroom instruction and tasks in a calm manner and successfully complete those tasks.
