Reading has changed since I went to school. Gone are the days where children used to learn to read at their desks. At our school, children learn to read in small guided reading groups. These groups are put together using data that we collect on each child. The children are then placed in small groups of no more than six children. This ensures that the children's needs are met to help them develop as readers. These groups are constantly changing to meet the needs of the children as they grow as readers. Currently, I am teaching my children on the carpet in a circle in the front of our classroom. It would be amazing to have a new table so that I could reach each student from one location instead of moving around and constantly getting up and moving behind each child to hear them read and listen for fluency.
