Within this project I have two major goals: help children understand the importance of math on a deeper level and provide more connections across a variety of content. When you donate to this project, you are helping kids grow in a variety of ways and helping them bloom into productive citizens of our society. By providing hands-on math games, manipulatives, logic building activities, and especially math-based, read-aloud books, you are helping future generations understand math in an abstract way that goes far beyond the norms of basic mathematical computations. Students need to understand that math is more than numbers you put together with operations. Math plays an incredibly important role in helping kids grow into citizens with developed problem-solving skills, and it takes unique materials and opportunities to explore for children to succeed. The other item I have on our project is an egg incubator. During the middle of the year, we do a novel study on the famous, "Charlotte's Web," by E.B. White. This books had provided countless opportunities to discuss reading strategies/skills and also the importance of building strong and enduring friendships. By adding the ability to hatch eggs like in the story, we are able to make even more connections to this text. You would help us open the door to discuss how science plays a role on Wilbur's farm through the scientific method, the importance of data and research, the chicken life cycle, and so much more.
