Back to school training can be dreadful, but if you love what you do and who you work with it opens your mind to all the possibilities you can give to your students. I want my students to believe they can achieve any goal and overcome any challenge, but recently I realized I am not doing everything in my power to help them see this. I find myself reading books with characters that my students can’t relate to because they don’t look like them. I’m here to ask for books that represent the students that I work with everyday for two reasons. 1)To instill a love of reading in them, and 2)To let them know that people of their skin tones, their culture and their background have and will continue to make a difference in the world and to not let the barriers and challenges in the world hold them back from their hopes and dreams.
