First graders LOVE touching things. I want to provide tactile experiences that enhance the science lessons and make them come alive. These materials will be perfect for my small group science table because they provide appealing visual displays as well as many chances to actually pick things up and look at them! The kids are told "don't touch!" so often in their lives, so actually being encouraged to "Please touch!" will be a welcome new experience. Being able to explore with their hands will help solidify the lessons and make them a life-long lover of all things science! Children are paired together in the science center, so this will also help in language development and social skills! The art of conversation is quickly being lost, and the stimulating experiences in this tactile center will be the catalyst for some great conversation!
