These materials will help environmental science come alive for my students. I want my students to come out of my class with the ability to read and think as a scientist. It is so important that my students are able to interact with the scientific process rather than just read or watch a video about it! The wind turbine building kit will give my students first-hand experience with how the parts of a turbine work and allow them to test different factors that create a more successful design model such as number or shape of the blades. The book, The Story of Stuff, would serve as a great reading project when my students are learning about the importance of consuming goods in a sustainable manner. I really want to introduce a reading project into my science classroom to show my students that reading is important, regardless of subject.
