Many of my students have special needs and are in need of additional stimulation and an environment which promotes active learning in order to be successful in the classroom. Movement is incredibly important for addressing my students’ needs with ADHD and autism. Flexible seating will allow my students to gain ownership over their learning process and allow them a choice to help themselves be more successful in the classroom. Providing my students with a variety of seating options, like mobile standing desks and balance balls, will teach them to compromise and take turns while choosing a place to sit as well as allow them the ability to focus during lessons.
