Representation matters. Books have the power to connect the reader to the outside world, help me give my students books that connect to the world they live in. My hope is for my students to be exposed to literary content that reflects both their life experiences and values. Reading builds vocabulary, empathy, and encourages critical thinking which, prepares students for the rigors of college and career. The books in this project will give my students an opportunity to see themselves represented both as characters in the story as well as writers of it. My students will have the opportunity to read these books during independent reading, and book club. Having books that are relevant to my students' lives and experiences is vital to them being able to find a love for reading. Help me give my students diverse books to read.
