Science becomes engaging when the right tools can be utilized. Hand held microscopes are not only convenient but a powerful way to bring the world into the classroom. Students will have the opportunity to study cells of plants and animals up close which will help them understand the concept that all living things are made of cells. Students will be able to observe properties of rocks and minerals and compare their findings and distinguish between living and non-living things. Using these hand held microscopes will enhance the overall experience of learning in my science classroom as well as allow students to make observations outside of the classroom, which is really difficult to do with a full sized microscope. When students have the opportunity to use scientific tools in a meaningful way, they are better equipped to make informed decisions and solve real world problems.
