Cooking and craft activities can help develop basic skills in children. These activities can promote language and literacy, develop senses, target articulation skills, and boost pragmatic language skills.
These activities also allow children to learn basic life skills. Children learn to plan (what tools and ingredients are needed?), prepare (gather tools and ingredients), process (listen and understand directions), and perform (follow directions using the tools and ingredients appropriately). It will also encourage pragmatic language skills through choice-making, requesting, and turn-taking.
My students participate in weekly cooking or craft activities. The Cooking and Baking Kits contain all of essential tools we need to build our kitchen so we can get cooking and making crafts! These kits will teach my students about common kitchen tools and how to safely use them. My students will create everything from play dough (using flour, salt, and oil) to mixing up smoothies!
