In my classroom, we use mentor texts to learn reading comprehension skills, fluency, and new vocabulary. I want to give my students the opportunity for each of them to have their own copy of the books we read. I want to foster the love for reading in them as it was done for me. My goal is for each of them to WANT to read because they love it and not because they are being made to do it. The most successful way to improve the reading achievement of low-income children is to increase their access to print. Newman, Sanford, et al. “American’s Child Care Crisis: A Crime Prevention Tragedy”; Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, 2000. By donating to my classroom, students will be able to have their own copy of the book we are reading in class.
