Each day students have 30 minutes of choice reading to ensure they are constantly growing their reading skills and habits while fostering a genuine love of reading! Sharon Flake and Sharon Draper are two incredibly talented authors whose novels and series speak to teenagers! And once students discover an author that they love, it is only a matter of time until they have eagerly digested all of her books! So many students have confessed that they always hated reading before taking my class! However, even the most skeptical students can't ignore the intrigue, terror, and real life scenarios Gerald and Angel face in Forged by Fire by Sharon Draper. Similarly, Sharon Flake's beautiful but accessible writing style is hard to resist when her characters are constantly struggling with loss, identity, peer pressure, and family dynamics. Both authors create worlds that are unbelievably difficult to put down, and their books always generate amazing book buzz, debate and discussions. Thank you! Thank you!
