I teach at a Title 1, low income school in California. We have developed a great culture that promotes wonderful character. We focus on being a good citizen by showing respect, solving problems and making good choices in life. We are trying to educate the whole student, not just their minds. Unfortunately, we do have some students who are struggling, severely. I am teaching a remedial Language Arts program to my school's 4th-6th graders who are very far below grade level. Up until this point, they didn't seem to like reading because they've never felt like they were successful. However, I started reading the first Percy Jackson book to them and they've latched on!
