The impacts of covid 19 exasperated an already on going battle between physical activity and increased screen time among students. By being forced to go to virtual learning the added screen time led to increase mental fatigue and decrease focus on physical activity. As an educator, it has challenged me to come up with new ways to encourage our students to get up and move! I am requesting gymnastic/exercise mats for my project. I am super excited to have the opportunity to incorporate gymnastics into my physical education curriculum. Gymnastics/exercise mats are a great tool to show the importance of flexibility and core strength for students. If awarded this equipment, I will utilize these mats for different games and exercise units throughout the school year. Implementing gymnastics into my P.E. classes will improve my students’ fundamental movement skills, as well as allow children to listen, problem solve, make decisions and prepare to take controlled risks. I want to ensure that my students receive a high quality, fun, and engaging Physical Education curriculum that they will enjoy. I also want to make certain that they succeed in many kinds of physical activity, develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics and strategies to perform successfully.
