My kids are in and out of my classroom all day. These students are not traditional students and they need a place to sit and process their feelings when they are having a bad day. A couch would allow them to feel like the office is more personal and less threatening. Sometimes it is beneficial to not have a desk that separates the student and the counselor. Students need to feel cared for and having a table separating them from me makes them feel like they are in trouble. I do not want to be seen as an authoritative figure, rather their advocate.
