I have always wished to have novel studies incorporated into my classroom for the past 6 years. I work in a Title 1 school and opportunities for classroom set of books is difficult. Novel Studies are extremely important in the upper elementary level. It begins with the opportunity for students to engage in soulful texts. Good texts excite and engaged children in deep thinking about reading and personal connections. Incorporating these novels into a classroom novel study, allows students to collaborate with one another and engage in deep conversations. Benefits of novel studies allow for building background and world exposure, authentic vocabulary building, communication and dialogue skills, development of social skills, and engagement and excitement for learning. The appreciation for these books for my class goes beyond gratefulness. My students will be so overwhelmed with gratitude when they all get to share in the same books. 5 benefits of novel studies that will change your perspective. (2019, March 08).
