Read aloud time is a cherished moment in my classroom. While distance learning, it was hard to get my hands on good books to do a quality read-aloud. These books will help me to have plenty of great stories for my students to listen to either while in the classroom, or distance learning. They will be used as "mentor texts" to teach specific skills such as characterization, theme, plot, and even life skills. We will reference back to these books throughout the year. Not only will these books provide for building skills, they will enrich my students' education by providing them with diversity during a time in our country when diversity is so important. We are in a small, rural, and mostly white community. It is so important to me that students are aware that our country is a melting pot, full of wonderful cultures.
