My goal as an educator is to give my students as many opportunities as possible to read or for me to read to them. Research has proven time and time again how vital reading skills are to be successful in life. I don't want my students to just learn to read, I want them to love reading. With the books I have requested we can read and reread these books over and over again and I can teach my students how to think more deeply every time. We can study the author, the text, word patterns, we can make predictions over what will happen next, how to infer the information the author has given us, how to identify story elements and why they are important to the story. We can even use these books for our writing units so we can study how authors write and use text features, adjectives, descriptions etc. The list goes on and on of all the important things we can do with these amazing books.
