Organization is a big thing for me in a classroom environment, I feel that everything should have a home (place in the classroom). So I aspire to have a more organized classroom where the kids know where everything belongs so that it can make classroom transitions easier. With that being said I think that seating should be less organized. I feel a way to help motivate students to learn is by giving them the opportunity to make decisions where they can do their work. The kids in my class last year loved sitting on top and under the desk to do their work. They were more eager to write and do their work when they felt they had the autonomy to choose where they would work. They also used the other seating options when they felt like they would be distracted by those who were working around them. I think that with the seating options I have chosen, the stools and the lap desk seats will give students even more options when choosing where they feel comfortable doing their work. For those who like a less confined desk and chair they can sit at a table or even join me at my table for instruction. Also I'm really trying to create a reading culture in my classroom, where the scholars can find a comfy space to curl up with a book. It makes those reading moments exciting. I'm sure I will see much success and progress like I have in the year prior with these new additions to the classroom environment.
