Kindergarteners are an active bunch of learners! They need to be able to get up and move frequently and find their own learning space. Traditional table and chair groupings can be difficult for little learners to sustain over a long period of time and often creates extra noise and distractions. Educational research has shown that giving students alternative seating choices like yoga balance balls, stools, and seating and work tables close to the floor, promotes a more productive learning environment. Giving my students optional seating will help engage them in their work and help them to discover how they work best. Students can spread out throughout the room to work individually or work in small groups. Flexible seating encourages collaboration, allows the movement Kindergarteners need to sustain focus, and also meets the requirements of my special needs learners.
